“El arte contemporáneo viene hoy a habitar el paradigma de la ruina. No es tanto un referente estético como más bien un modelo de construcción poética en torno a lo fragmentario, al deshecho, al resto de toda civilización, de todo lo dicho, lo habitado y lo trazado”
Ramón H. Oliva.

EPECUÉN ART RESIDENCY
“Contemporary art comes to inhabit the paradigm of a ruinous landscape. Not concerning aesthetics but as a model of poetic construction, encapsulated by the fragmented, waste, and by-products of civilization”
Ramón H. Oliva.
Ambos Mundos invites artists, researchers and curators to apply to 7th. edition Epecuen residency international program. It is intended to artistic projects that reflect an approach of contemporary practices in the territory.
We are looking for both Argentine and international visual artists, researchers and curators that work with ephemeral art, site specific live actions, interventions, installations, performance, sound art, photography, video, research projects, sculpture, drawing, and painting, as well as other contemporary art mediums. Artists will be chosen by our selection committee.
This residency seeks artists undergoing field research, developing their sense of personal expression, and exploring their relationship with the land through different mediums: painting, drawing, specific site live actions, interventions, installations, photography, sculpture, ceramics, as well as other contemporary art mediums. We strive to stimulate critical thought and the exchange of ideas through the coexistence of these mediums.
In keeping with the history of the region, we propose that residents approach and produce visual works that manifest themselves around and thus enhance the value of the theme of TERRITORY .
Villa Epecuén is the name of a touristic Argentine village that is now in ruins. It is located in the Adolfo Alsina , 540 kilometers from the city of Buenos Aires. The thermal waters of lake Epecuén have a high level of salinity, similar to the Dead Sea, which have generated a growing interest for wellness tourism. In 1985, a flood caused by the rising waters of the lake submerged the city completely, forcing the evacuation of its residents. Twenty years later, the water level began to descend, and the ruins of the city have become a tourist attraction, providing a landscape for photographers, musicians, and cinematographers. Within the desolated landscape lie the ruins of architect Salamone’s slaughterhouse, which was completed in 1938.
The operative base of the residency is located in Carhué the nearest town from the ruins. This rural territory will provide a space for field work and daily visits.
EPECUEN , Buenos Aires

OPEN STUDIO /EXHIBITION
“ARCHITECTURE OF DESOLATION”
The exhibition seeks to reflect on cycles that develop and leave their record in a desolate landscape during uncertain times--stories of civilization intermingled with realities that could have been.
The curatorial selection brings together works and artists that build a scene of disenchantment and creative need. Changes of form. Disruptions of territory and matter. Works with an ephemeral nature, specific site actions, stories.
We propose an exhibition of processes, ideas, and proposals related to the human experience. We will set a date to expose the artists’ work to the community as a pop up exhibition.
“Architecture of desolation” is an open exhibition project since 2017 incorporating new artists and partners. We made six exhibitions in our gallery and two in Chile.
